I chose to create an album cover for the Spotify version of Dunno, by Mac Miller. This song was inspired by his former girlfriend Ariana Grande, who was going through a very anxious time in her life. Miller wanted to express that he would comfort her and be with there in times of struggle and defeat. My goal was to share the narrative of the lyrics through imagery.

Reflection

Listening to the song repetitively and researching Miller’s past album and visual art, I knew I wanted to create a design with a combination of illustration and photos. With this, I wanted the artwork to convey a soft, somber feel, matching Miller’s voice and the acoustic melody. I wanted to use pastel colors, florals, and a strong captivating visual element. The stone angel and clouds were subjects I felt resonated well with the song.

“Until, until, there is no longer

Let's get lost inside the clouds

And you, you don't gotta work harder

I can calm you down.”
