As a final project for the senior capstone, we were asked to create a piece that would benefit an audience we feel personally connected with. Being a family oriented person, I wanted to focus on the importance of quality time and bettering relationships with loved ones. This goal led to the creation of What’s Cookin’

Problem

There are many families where life gets too busy and sit down dinners get shadowed by other priorities, resulting in poor social, communication, and trust skills. Parents, along with their children can miss out on many important discussions and conversation that only limits the relationships these young people will make in the future.

Solution

Create a food subscription that acts as a fun family activity, from receiving the box on the doorstep, to sitting down at the table. This service would come with healthy meals (based on food restrictions and number of family members), along with a recipe that assigns everyone in the family to a task (based on age and skills in kitchen). This eliminates feelings of being left out and acts as a team building exercise, teaching everyone how to work well with others. Lastly, the box includes four deck of cards, each consisting of a different topic (Affirmation Station, Challenge Accepted, Relax or & Unwind, and Time for Reflection), for everyone to take turns and ask around the table, implementing healthy conversation and a “no judgement” space.
