Behind the Seams
A mobile app helping individuals discover and learn more about clothing companies and their ethics
Role: UX/UI Designer, Copywriter, Iconography Illustrator
Responsibilities: Ideation, Research, Copy, Prototyping, Iconography
Result: Interactive Prototype
Tools: Adobe XD, Adobe Illustrator, Hand Sketching
This project focused on creating an app prototype surrounding the question: What would you like to hear from your elected officials? With a wide range of issues to choose from, I narrowed my approach to the climate crisis. More specifically, I targeted the fashion industry and their impacts on our environment and people. Having a strong emphasis on human centered design, this project consisted of various research methods, group exercises, visual audits, usability tests, and continually reworking the prototype up to its polished composition. My mission for this project was to create a platform where an individual can efficiently find authentic information on their clothing brand of choice with just as simple as a scan of the apparel’s tag.

Goal
My goal is to make fast fashion dangers and unknown facts easily accessible to users so they can make better conscious decisions of where they shop at, ultimately eliminating consumerism and support of fast fashion companies.
Problem
Accessibility to information on Companies is limited/time intensive
Design’s Contribution
Allow for easy, fast, and more engaging answers
Design Process
After gathering all necessary research, information, and feedback, I was able to begin prototyping my app.
Low Fidelity Prototype
Hand Sketches and Paper Prototype Using Invision
The focus for this initial prototype was to chart out how I would like my users to travel through my app, and decide the layout and key components I should include.
From creating this, I learned:
Having both an explore and scanning feature accommodate all users, such as people who can’t access their camera feature.
Clear image list icons is valuable and important.
Asking user for camera access should be included
Digital Wireframe & Mid Fidelity Prototype
Grayscale Prototype Using Adobe XD
This process mainly involved making improvements to the previous prototype such as, a dialog that asks the user if the app can access their camera, a feature where users can favorite brands or specific categories, and altering the spacing and gutters to make a more organized layout.
From creating this, I learned:
My icon for the scanning feature is confusing and difficult to understand.
The bottom navigation bar isn’t needed in the Homepage
High Fidelity Prototype
Completed Prototype Using XD
This prototype includes a polished composition, showcasing the apps originally featured abilities, with an additional new color palette and type, personal components, and animated screen features.
Improvements included:
Substituting star components for statements
Including a “capture” for the scanning feature
